Everyday Heroes

I sit here on my front driveway writing this post completely unaffected by what so many are dealing with right now: loss of jobs, no disposable income, loss of customers/business, potentially exposed to the virus on a daily basis because of job, risk of death because of an underlying medical condition, and so forth.

We are lucky. Even though we are “stuck” inside or near our homes from the loss of freedom to come and go wherever we please, we are doing just fine in the big picture. (knock on wood)

While I sit here, relaxing on my driveway with my family, there are people and organizations who are the busting their asses to take care of us all. They are the heroes in all of this.

I’ve been trying to focus on the good while still trying to stay informed. Too much information isn’t healthy so I vet my sources so that I mostly get what is going well during this crisis. This is a must if I’m want to keep my hope and faith up in people and the situation we are all dealing with.

Here are some everyday heroes to brighten your day.

My neighbor, Debbie, is a manager of ambulatory care and has been working 14 hour shifts from 4:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. every day.

My friend, Soni, is an occupational therapist who is still serving her patients in their homes while returning home to her family, taking every precaution to keep her patients and family safe.

In New York, Michael Bednark halted production on current fabrication orders and switched over to making face shields for healthcare workers.

There’s a teacher in Dublin delivering food to disadvantaged students.

Joann’s Fabrics is giving face-mask making kits for free for anyone willing to make masks for healthcare workers. They are offering a step-by-step YouTube tutorial on how to make them and then collecting them at drop off sites so they can deliver them to local hospitals in need.

A Maine sail repair shop is now making masks.

Service dogs in training are going to visit doctors on the front lines battling with stress.

Charlie Hustle is making t-shirts with all profits to support Harvesters in providing food during this time.

There are thousands more heroes out there and I wish I knew all of them so I could share them with you here. If you know someone who is showing up as a hero during this pandemic right now, please, please, please share them in the comments.

They deserve to be recognized!

Stay home and stay healthy everyone!

xo,

Hal
