Allowing Fear to Be In, But Not Rule Our Lives

I used to let fear run my life and not in a good way. (Yes, there's a good way to use fear.)

I avoided things that I was afraid of: deep water, confrontation, sucking at something, and speaking in front of people.

It wasn't until I let that fear guide me that I found true empowerment in my life.

Don't get me wrong--I'm still afraid of many things but I no longer allow that fear to keep me from doing hard things in my life. It actually serves as a guide as to what I need to explore.

In today’s episode, I’m sharing stories of what I’ve been fearful of and how I used to to help me rather than hinder my life.

Let me know over on Substack or in the comments a fear you’ve used to find empowerment in your own life.

My Personal Experience with Peptide Therapy

Peptide therapy is being touted as the next health “hack” out there but I consider it to be more like a way to fix a broken system.

I share the what and the why behind starting peptide therapy, my personal experience with it, and why my experience is vastly different than what we’ve been told in mainstream media.

This is not medical advice nor a recommendation to start but it is an honest conversation about my own experience with peptide therapy.

Guest Appearance: The “Sober Curious Lifestyle’ and the Impact on Your Friendships on Dear Nina: Conversations about Friendship

I’m not releasing an AWEd Life episode this week because I’m over on Dear Nina: Conversations About Friendships instead!

Here's the description from Nina about the podcast:

Are you (or a friend) considering a sober curious lifestyle?

Do you know someone who has adopted a “sober curious” lifestyle? Perhaps it’s a pivot you’ve been considering for yourself? The term is usually credited to Ruby Warrington, author of Sober Curious: The Blissful Sleep, Greater Focus, Limitless Presence, and Deep Connection Awaiting Us All on the Other Side of Alcohol.

“Sober curious” means you’re curious about how much you’re drinking and how your health, relationships, and work and more might change without alcohol, even if you don’t have an addiction.

Today’s guest, writer and podcaster, Hallie Sawyer, began a sober curious journey several years ago and is here to give Dear Nina listeners an honest account of how it began and why she has stayed completely committed to avoiding alcohol years later.

An Honest Conversation about Social Media

I LOVED social media when it first came onto the internet and phone app scene. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram were my happy places. I was keeping in touch with college friends, meeting writers and other creatives, and getting inspired daily in these spaces. Until I wasn’t.

Today, I talk honestly about my disenchantment as of late and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I share my struggles with giving it up entirely but also why I’m pulling waaaaay back from it all.

I’d love to hear how you’re navigating it all or if you’ve given it up yourself. Come find me at the various places below and let’s chat after the podcast!

Embracing the New Year: Reflections and Intentions

There are no rules to how you prep for this next year or how to acknowledge what’s gone by but I think doing some reflection and intention setting is time well spent.

I spent the beginning of the new year reflecting on 2024: what were my wins/reasons to celebrate and what I still struggle with (limiting beliefs, time management, etc.).

Then, I looked ahead into 2025 and set some intentions for what needs to go, what I need to do more of, and what I am great with continuing.

I’ve only been doing this the past couple of years so it’s not exactly a regular practice for me but I love the focus it brings me as well as the chance to acknowledge all that I did (or didn’t do) in the past year.

It’s not too late to give it a go yourself and I highly recommend taking the time to celebrate the wins and plan for how you want to show up for yourself, others, and the world for that matter in the year ahead.

Showing Up For Yourself and Others When Emotions Run High

In today’s episode, I’m sharing how I’ve been processing the past few weeks. Emotions are all over the place so I’m relying on the tried and true tools as well as some new ones to help me get back to center. (I’m still unsure where that is these days.)

When emotions run high, we often reach for things to numb out, help push them down, or “just get through”. I did that for years, and it never made me feel better. It only delayed the inevitable tidal wave of feelings that were irrelevant to time and place.

I’m sharing a few things that are working for me and I hope they’ll be helpful for you as well. Finding our way back to center is vital to our emotional well-being but allowing ourselves (and others) to “be in our feelings” is also important.

You’re never alone in how you feel and having people in your life who listen and support you in hard times is life-saving.

All women are welcome in the AWEd AF community.

It's Never Too Late (or Early) to Pursue Ourselves and The Life We Want

Nothing lights me up more than the topic of women pursuing themselves and a life THEY want.

I know too many women who have put themselves on the back burner for their entire lives (I was one of them!) because they didn’t want to appear selfish because either they were a mom, a wife, a caretaker, or a million other roles.

Society often tells women, directly and indirectly, that we are the ones who need to make sacrifices in order to serve others. We are the ones to give up on our dreams to meet the needs of others. We are the ones who need be at the beck and call of others when they need help.

But what about OUR needs? What about what WE want? Why do those things get discounted or dismissed so easily?

There is no better time to start then now, regardless of our age, to pursue ourselves and the life we want.

I have so many thoughts on this and I’m sharing them today on this podcast episode. Tune in then come over and join me on Substack in our AWEd AF community to chat further. The link is below on where to find us.

Feeling unsupported? This is normal but also, not okay.

It can be so disheartening when the people closest to us don’t support our businesses or our creative endeavors. Unfortunately, it’s normal but that doesn’t mean it’s okay.

I’m sharing some of my own experiences as well as what has helped me look at the whole situation differently which feels healthier and brings me more peace.

I share this for two reasons:

  1. You are not alone in how you feel so welcome to the club.

  2. To bring awareness to people who may not realize how their silence affects the creators, entrepreneurs, small business owners, writers, etc. in their lives.

Taking On The Food Industry and What We Can Do Now

The war on Big Food has started…I hope.

Recently, there was a Senate roundtable discussion panel where practitioners, nutritionists, wellness advocates, and doctors spoke regarding the changes over the course of the last century that have negatively impacted our nation’s health.

It’s been a long time coming and I hope this is just the beginning.

Today I’m sharing my own thoughts and personal experiences of learning about the toxic nature of our food industry and what we can start doing NOW to positively impact our families.

It’s time to send a message to Big Food that we are no longer here for their crap…literally.

My Menopause Journey and What I Wish I'd Known Beforehand

Menopause…just saying the word may be making you feel tired, irritable, sad, or like you just gained five pounds. I’ve been there and I KNOW how strange this time can be for you right now. It was for me, too.

Or maybe you’re a Millennial or Gen Z and this is waaaay down the road for you. Cool but I still think this topic is something to pay attention to NOW before you get there.

Suffering is optional and I’m here to tell you how I ended mine. I’ve also got resources for you in the show notes to check out as well.
