In today’s episode, I’m sharing how I’ve been processing the past few weeks. Emotions are all over the place so I’m relying on the tried and true tools as well as some new ones to help me get back to center. (I’m still unsure where that is these days.)
When emotions run high, we often reach for things to numb out, help push them down, or “just get through”. I did that for years, and it never made me feel better. It only delayed the inevitable tidal wave of feelings that were irrelevant to time and place.
I’m sharing a few things that are working for me and I hope they’ll be helpful for you as well. Finding our way back to center is vital to our emotional well-being but allowing ourselves (and others) to “be in our feelings” is also important.
You’re never alone in how you feel and having people in your life who listen and support you in hard times is life-saving.
My guest, Ann Imig, has been in various roles throughout her life: a performer, blogger, writer, mother, and now coach, which she says is where she feels the most flow.
She is a positive psychology coach who aims to help others shift their minds, disrupt their stress, and lean into their strengths to better enjoy today.
I can’t think of a better time to have this conversation than right now so please take a listen and share with a friend who may need a little push toward positive thoughts right now. Help is just a click away.
Today, of all days, is the perfect day to start a meditation practice and I’ve got one that’s super easy.
It’s a way to show loving kindness to yourself and others at the same time.
You can control how you feel at any given moment or space in time and this is one of the tools I’ve found to help me which only takes a few minutes to do.
Have you ever wanted to just pick up and live somewhere else? I don’t mean like the next town over….I’m talking like the next country over.
Well, my next guest did just that. Heather and her husband sold their home and everything in it then moved overseas to a place they only visited once. ONCE!
Today, Heather shares where this idea to move abroad came from, how they pulled it off, the good and the bad of it all, as well as a few pieces of advice in case you’re curious as to what it would take to move overseas as well.
Nothing lights me up more than the topic of women pursuing themselves and a life THEY want.
I know too many women who have put themselves on the back burner for their entire lives (I was one of them!) because they didn’t want to appear selfish because either they were a mom, a wife, a caretaker, or a million other roles.
Society often tells women, directly and indirectly, that we are the ones who need to make sacrifices in order to serve others. We are the ones to give up on our dreams to meet the needs of others. We are the ones who need be at the beck and call of others when they need help.
But what about OUR needs? What about what WE want? Why do those things get discounted or dismissed so easily?
There is no better time to start then now, regardless of our age, to pursue ourselves and the life we want.
I have so many thoughts on this and I’m sharing them today on this podcast episode. Tune in then come over and join me on Substack in our AWEd AF community to chat further. The link is below on where to find us.
It can be so disheartening when the people closest to us don’t support our businesses or our creative endeavors. Unfortunately, it’s normal but that doesn’t mean it’s okay.
I’m sharing some of my own experiences as well as what has helped me look at the whole situation differently which feels healthier and brings me more peace.
I share this for two reasons:
You are not alone in how you feel so welcome to the club.
To bring awareness to people who may not realize how their silence affects the creators, entrepreneurs, small business owners, writers, etc. in their lives.
Recently, there was a Senate roundtable discussion panel where practitioners, nutritionists, wellness advocates, and doctors spoke regarding the changes over the course of the last century that have negatively impacted our nation’s health.
It’s been a long time coming and I hope this is just the beginning.
Today I’m sharing my own thoughts and personal experiences of learning about the toxic nature of our food industry and what we can start doing NOW to positively impact our families.
It’s time to send a message to Big Food that we are no longer here for their crap…literally.
Menopause…just saying the word may be making you feel tired, irritable, sad, or like you just gained five pounds. I’ve been there and I KNOW how strange this time can be for you right now. It was for me, too.
Or maybe you’re a Millennial or Gen Z and this is waaaay down the road for you. Cool but I still think this topic is something to pay attention to NOW before you get there.
Suffering is optional and I’m here to tell you how I ended mine. I’ve also got resources for you in the show notes to check out as well.
I hope you had a wonderful summer with family and friends, taking the vacations, reading the books, soaking up the sun, and enjoying a little time in nature.!I’m kicking off Season 3 with a little recap of what I’ve been up to over the summer as well as what’s new with the podcast this season.
I'm also sharing my favorite places from our summer travels in case you'd like to check them out someday, too.
I’m THRILLED to share my conversation with bestselling author, Deanna Raybourn about the foundation of her success as an author, what inspires her amazing female characters, her latest book release, as well as some of her own favorite reads.
I’ve been a fan of Deanna’s books after I read THE DEAD TRAVEL FAST back in 2010 and have loved every one I’ve read since. I wanted to have her on the podcast to talk about her inspiration for her unique yet AWEd female characters as well as learn more about where her own strength comes from.
She was as wonderful as I expected and more and hope you take a moment to listen to what goes into creating her stories as well as the strength behind her own life story.
I’m giving away a copy of her latest novel, A Grave Robbery as well as her first book in the Veronica Speedwell series. Just comment here, on this episode specific IG or FB post and you’re entered to win!
Today, I'm talking about letting the tears flow, the anger rise, the heart overflow, the hope float, and all the emotions in between.
I'm fully owning all the feelings because I've stuffed them away for far too long. I believe long-term suppression leads to anguish and rage, along with a whole host of physical repercussions and I, personally, am sick of it. I'm done with it in my own life and I'm really done with it out in society.
Join me for a conversation about feelings, emotions, and why we need to let it all out. I also share a few of my favorite ways I process my emotions that are healthy that also allow me to learn more about who I am along the way.
This episode has been a long time coming because I can think of no one better to talk about the essentialism of friendship in living an AWEd Life than Nina Badzin.
Nina hosts her own podcast called Dear Nina: Conversations About Friendship which is clearly devoted solely to this topic!
I came clean about my own struggles with making connections in midlife as well as wondering when it is time to let go or keep pursuing current friendships.
I hope you find something in this conversation to help you navigate your own friendships and if you don’t hear it covered in this episode, there are 90+ others to go check out on Nina’s podcast when you’re done listening!
This one was a tough one to talk about but there was a lesson I recently learned that I felt was too important to NOT talk about, especially given the time of year. This has been an incredibly heartbreaking part of my life for the past six years, that is until I had an a-ha after a conversation with an estranged friend that allowed me to look at things differently.
I’ve found peace within myself again and while I still don’t love this part of my life or even talking about it, I had such a revelation about what I was still feeling that I knew it may be helpful for you, too.
Truly, I share all of this, not to bring up old hurts or to make myself look like the only wounded person in this, but to highlight the lesson and give you a new way to look at your own breakups, whether they are relationships, family members, or friendships. It’s given me so much peace and I no longer continually grieve over it.
I LOVED this conversation!! Dr. Brooke Scheller has such an unique approach to helping others on their sober journey…their nutrition! As simple and common sensical as this sounds, no one has been talking about it…until now.
In today’s chat, we talk about her own journey into sobriety, how different body systems are impacted by alcohol, and how a nutritional and functional medicine approach can change your relationship with alcohol through what she calls functional sobriety.
If you’ve ever been curious about traveling down the sober road yourself, this is a must listen to help you get started.
In today’s episode, I’m sharing some of my recent travels to Austin and what connections I made between some events at my son’s baseball game and the recent Super Bowl win by the Kansas City Chiefs. I also share why I think it’s important to show up for the important people in our lives.
Fifty episodes! We made it to the 11%, folks! (According to Poddster, only 11% of podcasts make it to 50 episodes.)
It’s time to celebrate for a second then get into the business of talking about something “easy” (which may not be for some folks) to grow your empowerment muscle. In my opinion, this is one that if you don’t use it, you lose it. And I canNOT imagine not feeling empowered as I get older.
Join me for a conversation after this conversation if you want over on Patreon, on Instagram, or Facebook. Let me know what you do in your life that helps you feel empowered.
In this episode, I’m sharing some things from our holiday break, family vacation to Cabo San Lucas, and some things I’m working on in 2024.
I’m sharing some stories from the trip, an unexpected “gift” from an old friend, and I get a little vulnerable on what areas on want to work on in 2024. Maybe you can relate.
Join me over on Instagram or Facebook with any comments after listening or watching! I’d love to hear what you’re working on in 2024 so I can support you every step of the way.
My next guest is no stranger to doing hard things but getting off antidepressants after 15 years may be one of the hardest.
In this episode, we discuss her introduction to them, life on them, and then what finally made her decide to try life without them. I recently read her book, May Cause Side Effects (May 2022) and could not put it down. It was so well written and her story was riveting.
I don’t think you have to be on antidepressants (I’m not) to appreciate or empathize with her journey and I highly recommend giving her memoir a read, right after you finish listening to the podcast ;)
I’m giving away a copy of the book to a lucky listener so head over to Instagram to this episode’s post to learn how to enter.
I’m taking the next month off from the podcast to count my blessings, reflect on the past year (both personally and professionally), as well as set a vision for the months ahead.
In this episode, I share why I’m starting this back up after not doing it for the past couple of years. Doing this kind of reflection and intention-setting work will help kick off my 2024 in a way that feels…well, just good. Like I’ve got my stuff together and I’m in alignment: mind, body and spirit. Who doesn’t want that?!
I’m also sharing a couple of words that are driving my actions this next year and I hope it encourages you to take some time to reflect on your 2023 and to make your 2024 amazing!
