I’ve compiled my favorite books and shows that helped me feel more awake, well, and empowered this year. I”m sharing some non-fiction and fiction books both as well as documentaries and TV series that had my heart and mind turned all the way up.
I love reading more than anything and while I’m falling a little short of my goal of 50 books this year, I’m determined to do more of it in 2024.
I’d love to hear what were your favorite books/TV shows this year! Leave them in the comments below or head over to The AWEd Life IG account or FB page and leave your faves in the comments of this episode’s specific post.
In today’s episode, I”m sharing my path into the Woo and why I have loved every step. My spiritual health has never been stronger and I fully attribute it to the soul work I’ve done.
I think this is an area that gets the most flack for being fringe, weird, BS, snake oil, etc. but usually comes from those who haven’t explored it. Like I say at the end of this episode, don’t knock it until you try it. You just might love what you learn and how you see yourself, and the world, in a whole new way!
My guest today is no stranger to the negative self-talk we have all found ourselves doing at some point in our lives. We pick apart the way we look, the way we did or didn’t do something, how we do our jobs…the list is endless of all the thing we can speak negatively to ourselves about.
Katie Horwitch is the founder of the WANT: Woman Against Negative Talk, a multimedia platform to give women tools, tips, motivation, and inspiration to shift negative-self talk to positive + proactive. She’s also the host of the WANTcast: Women Against Negative Talk podcast, a mindset coach, public speaker, fitness instructor, writer, and now published author.
Join the conversation to learn more about her, where WANT started and what her debut book, Want Your Self, is all about.
I’m sharing a part of my life that has always been a source of pain and has taken up way too much of my energy. And I’m ready to be done.
It all came to the surface recently as I thought about some things I’d reading in the book, Want Your Self by upcoming podcast guest, author Katie Horwitch) and after going to a group yoga class. I knew I’d been spending so much mental energy on this but I think I’ve finally hit my breaking point with it.
Take a listen to what I’m letting go of once and for all. I’m ready to start WANTing myself. Maybe you are, too.
Avarie’s back on the podcast! This time we talk about what the last year has done for her personally and professionally and why even though it was one of the toughest years of her life has also been her best.
Avarie is currently a sports reporter and social media strategist for Hurrdat Sports/Media in Omaha, Nebraska where she covers Husker football, a variety of Omaha sports like hockey and basketball, College World Series baseball, and soon to be the first pro-volleyball team in Nebraska, the Omaha Supernovas.
I’m constantly amazed at all that she’s done in her short 24 years of life but I have a feeling this is just the beginning for her. I can’t wait for you to listen to our conversation and if you are wanting a bit more, head over to my YouTube channel to watch the conversation.
Today I’m sharing my recent experience with my blood test results I received for my most recent bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. I share where I started on this road and where I ended up, which was very different from the advice I had been getting from the practitioners I was seeing.
I share my concerning rise in blood glucose levels over the recent years and why a keto-centric diet was never the answer. At least for me.
What I also have come to realize is that the blood work never lies.
From swimming competitively at a young age, to battling an autoimmune disease, and moving to a new city with a big dream in her heart, my guest, Sydney has already accomplished so much at such a young age.
Sydney is currently an MLB and NFL photographer and she's only 24 years old!
In this episode, she shares her story of how she got into photography in the first place, how her illness landed her at the college she was truly meant to be, and how her friends helped launch her into a career she had never dreamed of for herself.
AND we talk about the day Taylor Swift came to town (the first time in Chiefs red) and how Sydney ended up up close and sort of personal. ;)
Her story will inspire you to say yes to more things and to follow what lights you up inside because you never know where it may lead!
Hi, how are you…really? Jenna Kutcher even wrote a book with that as the title and it just might be time to pick that one up.
Because I’m not well. I’m overwhelmed, overburdened, overstressed, and feel like I’m going to implode with all the emotions from the past couple of weeks. Hell, the past couple of years.
I’m not well because I’m a mom with 24 of being overburdened under her yoga pant waist band; I’m a woman in menopause with a overdue dose of bio-identical hormones, and I’m competely overwhelmed by the onslaught of news, none of it very good.
And I’m here today to tell you you’re not alone in how you’re feeling because I’m feeling it, too. I’ve got a few things I’m implementing in order to get myself to a healthier state than I’m in right now and they may inspire you to try a few things as well.
We’re all in this together so when some of us aren’t well, we all suffer. It’s how being human works. Moms get this because we all know that we are only as happy as our most unhappy child. And right now, it seems the world is unhappy.
So many of us are at our limit and it’s time to talk about it. Join me for an important conversation.
My guest, Laura Munson, has carved out a life for herself in Montana but she happily shares it with dozens of writing retreat attendees each year.
Laura is a bestselling author and novelist as well as essayist, having one of them gone viral in the Modern Love column of the New York Times, which she still receives emails about to this day!
She is the definition of an AWEd woman. She's awake to the beauty and wonder of nature all around her; she lives well surrounded by family and friends where she belongs to no one but herself, and she’s empowered as someone who found a solution to a problem which is still providing for her in so many ways years later.
I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did and maybe you’ll see yourself at one of her writing retreats someday!
In today's episode, I bring up an experience that will let you know who your friends are and what you want friendships to look like in the latter years of life.
It's just the beginning of many episodes on this topic of friendships and would love to know your thoughts in the comments if you think about the same things I share in this episode.
When I tell you these two are going to change the world, I’m not even close to exaggerating.
I’m so happy to bring this conversation to you today to share what Sarah and Kayla are doing in the NA beverage space. They have created a business that is providing a solution to a problem not only for themselves but also for others who are living sober, sober-curious, or want to drink more mindfully.
They are the duo behind SipSteady which is a first-of-its-kind marketing/pr and events agency dedicated exclusively to the N/A beverage industry.
Move over, NA beers. There are way more choices these days for a celebratory cocktail that brings all the good (i.e. healthy) vibes with none of the hangover and Sarah and Kayla are determined to bring them to store shelves, bars, and entertainment venues near you very, very soon!
Today, I'm sharing some insights from a book that I cannot recommend enough. Last week, my guest, Chrissy Powers, and I talked a lot about embodiment work and why it's so important.
This book by Hillary McBride PhD is its own version of therapy. In this episode, I share some of the most important takeaways as well as some stories of my own disembodiment, which you may recognize in your own life as well.
This is one of those books you'll want to have handy to remind yourself that you CAN heal, you CAN feel connected to yourself, and you CAN feel fully alive whenever you choose to.
My guest today is licensed therapist and embodiment coach, Chrissy Powers. You will hear about her healing journey and how it led her to helping others heal, what she suggests to help become more embodied, some of her favorite books and podcasts, as well as all about her healing retreats both past and what's coming up next!
In this episode, I give a little update on what I did over the summer break, share what's new with the podcast, how to get more involved in our AWEd Life community, and much more!
In my last episode of this season, I'm sharing some things I've learned about podcasting these past nine months, what opportunities have come my way because of it, why you should follow your own curiosities, and what's coming up for The AWEd Life community this summer as well as some changes for next season!
In this episode, I wrap up my conversation with accountability coach, Jennifer Chaney, where we talk about what society has wrong about life in the middle, why doing hard things is so important, how an accountability coach can help in all stages of motherhood, as well as some of Jennifer's favorite books and hobbies.
Do you have a life plan for the next phase of your life? If not, my guest today shares her own story about what led her to create hers and, hopefully, inspire you to do the same. We had such a great conversation that I divided it up into two episodes so you wouldn’t miss a thing.
Whether you’re in early motherhood or almost an empty nester, there is much you can glean from Jennifer. I think you’re going to enjoy hearing about the experiences that led her to where she is now and how she can help us all not leave ANY parts of our life to chance.
In today's episode, I'm sharing some thoughts on how to take a different approach for a more mindful birthday. And I've had quite a few not-so-good ones but I think I've got just the thing to keep it from happening ever again.
Listen in to hear my own stories of birthdays past and how I see my birthday from a whole new perspective than I used to. I also share some ideas on how to make each year more meaningful (and less disappointing!)
If you’re like me, you’ve been led to believe that drinking eight-plus glasses of water means you are properly hydrated but it’s not that simple or accurate.
Today, I’m sharing some health issues you may not have associated with dehydration and what you need to make sure you include in your diet to ensure the water you drink actually does your body good.
Today, I'm talking with my guest, Cara Menz, about finding and living her alcohol-free lifestyle, what it's given her, and how it's transformed the way she sees the world and herself.
She has become an alcohol-free empowerment coach to help guide others who are curious about forgoing alcohol in their lives and creating a community of women to feel more empowered and less alone on their journey.
