Antidepressant Withdrawal, The Hard Truth with Brooke Siem

My next guest is no stranger to doing hard things but getting off antidepressants after 15 years may be one of the hardest.

In this episode, we discuss her introduction to them, life on them, and then what finally made her decide to try life without them. I recently read her book, May Cause Side Effects (May 2022) and could not put it down. It was so well written and her story was riveting.

I don’t think you have to be on antidepressants (I’m not) to appreciate or empathize with her journey and I highly recommend giving her memoir a read, right after you finish listening to the podcast ;)

I’m giving away a copy of the book to a lucky listener so head over to Instagram to this episode’s post to learn how to enter.

Why Reflection on 2023 Makes for a Better 2024!

I’m taking the next month off from the podcast to count my blessings, reflect on the past year (both personally and professionally), as well as set a vision for the months ahead.

In this episode, I share why I’m starting this back up after not doing it for the past couple of years. Doing this kind of reflection and intention-setting work will help kick off my 2024 in a way that feels…well, just good. Like I’ve got my stuff together and I’m in alignment: mind, body and spirit. Who doesn’t want that?!

I’m also sharing a couple of words that are driving my actions this next year and I hope it encourages you to take some time to reflect on your 2023 and to make your 2024 amazing!

Embracing the Woo

In today’s episode, I”m sharing my path into the Woo and why I have loved every step. My spiritual health has never been stronger and I fully attribute it to the soul work I’ve done.

I think this is an area that gets the most flack for being fringe, weird, BS, snake oil, etc. but usually comes from those who haven’t explored it. Like I say at the end of this episode, don’t knock it until you try it. You just might love what you learn and how you see yourself, and the world, in a whole new way!

Learning to Love Exactly Where I Am

I’m sharing a part of my life that has always been a source of pain and has taken up way too much of my energy. And I’m ready to be done.

It all came to the surface recently as I thought about some things I’d reading in the book, Want Your Self by upcoming podcast guest, author Katie Horwitch) and after going to a group yoga class. I knew I’d been spending so much mental energy on this but I think I’ve finally hit my breaking point with it.

Believe the Blood Work!

Today I’m sharing my recent experience with my blood test results I received for my most recent bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. I share where I started on this road and where I ended up, which was very different from the advice I had been getting from the practitioners I was seeing.

I share my concerning rise in blood glucose levels over the recent years and why a keto-centric diet was never the answer. At least for me.

What I also have come to realize is that the blood work never lies.

We Are Not Well

Hi, how are you…really? Jenna Kutcher even wrote a book with that as the title and it just might be time to pick that one up.

Because I’m not well. I’m overwhelmed, overburdened, overstressed, and feel like I’m going to implode with all the emotions from the past couple of weeks. Hell, the past couple of years.

I’m not well because I’m a mom with 24 of being overburdened under her yoga pant waist band; I’m a woman in menopause with a overdue dose of bio-identical hormones, and I’m competely overwhelmed by the onslaught of news, none of it very good.

And I’m here today to tell you you’re not alone in how you’re feeling because I’m feeling it, too. I’ve got a few things I’m implementing in order to get myself to a healthier state than I’m in right now and they may inspire you to try a few things as well.

We’re all in this together so when some of us aren’t well, we all suffer. It’s how being human works. Moms get this because we all know that we are only as happy as our most unhappy child. And right now, it seems the world is unhappy.

So many of us are at our limit and it’s time to talk about it. Join me for an important conversation.

Creating Her Haven with Laura Munson

My guest, Laura Munson, has carved out a life for herself in Montana but she happily shares it with dozens of writing retreat attendees each year.

Laura is a bestselling author and novelist as well as essayist, having one of them gone viral in the Modern Love column of the New York Times, which she still receives emails about to this day!

She is the definition of an AWEd woman. She's awake to the beauty and wonder of nature all around her; she lives well surrounded by family and friends where she belongs to no one but herself, and she’s empowered as someone who found a solution to a problem which is still providing for her in so many ways years later.

I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did and maybe you’ll see yourself at one of her writing retreats someday!

Ep. 35 - The Importance of Understanding the Wisdom of Your Body

Today, I'm sharing some insights from a book that I cannot recommend enough. Last week, my guest, Chrissy Powers, and I talked a lot about embodiment work and why it's so important.

This book by Hillary McBride PhD is its own version of therapy. In this episode, I share some of the most important takeaways as well as some stories of my own disembodiment, which you may recognize in your own life as well.

This is one of those books you'll want to have handy to remind yourself that you CAN heal, you CAN feel connected to yourself, and you CAN feel fully alive whenever you choose to.

Do you have a life plan for the next phase of your life? If not, my guest today shares her own story about what led her to create hers and, hopefully, inspire you to do the same. We had such a great conversation that I divided it up into two episodes so you wouldn’t miss a thing.
